According to a local folklore written in the book " Ngọc phả cổ lục ", 7th of the third month of the lunar calendar is the day “the King pass away" also known as the day of the death of King An Duong Vuong. The preparation of all kinds of offerings and distribution to dignitaries and people on the King's death anniversary is clearly and strictly regulated in the book "Traditions of Cổ Loa Commune, Đông Anh District, Cổ Loa Canton, Phúc Yên Province" as follows:
According to the old custom, on the 7th of March, the offerings in the upper altar were a vegetarian meal, in the lower altar there was black pork with black buffalo meat, sticky rice, wine, banh chung, floating cakes, and banning singing.
On March 7, the commune bought 2 pigs for the ceremony in 2 places, the main hall has betel nut and flowers, 2 pigs each about 30”quan” (The ancient Vietnamese currency unit), 10 bottles of wine, 100 areca berries, 200 pieces of dried areca, 6 sets of sticky rice. Money for the ceremony is taken from "2 mẫu 1 sào" (equal to 7560 m2, “mẫu, sào” are the old units of measurement) of the sacrificial field, each “mẫu” is 50 “quan”. The preparation of the ceremony is based on the regulations. Those fields are located in the land of Đàm Cự.
On March 7th, 13 villages offer a ceremony including 1 set of sticky rice, 100 green bananas, 12 pieces of betel nut, 1 bottle of wine, and 100 votive papers.
