The Experience: Making Oản (Sticky Rice In Jackfruit Leaves)
Ngày 23 tháng 12 Năm 2020

Oản is an offering in the holidays of the year, in the important events of the family associated with the spiritual culture of the Vietnamese people. According to the old beliefs: the white color and the aroma of sticky rice combined with the green color of jackfruit leaves are the essence of heaven and earth that create the holiness.

Come to the Co Loa Vestige Site, visitors will experience the practice of making Oản. Sticky rice is cooked using the most famous golden flower sticky rice in the region, transplanted in the field of Duc Tu village close to the Outer Wall of the Citadel of Co Loa, a region specializing in cultivating the golden flower sticky rice for many generations. Jackfruit leaves are taken from old jackfruit trees planted in the Co Loa citadel. And a mold made of jackfruit wood is needed in the process of making Oản.

Putting sticky rice into the mold is not difficult, but people must press their hand steadily on the hot rice until the mold is full.  Jackfruit leaves are cut round, put on the base of the mold, then lightly press the mold to take the white sticky rice out. To continue making Oản, you must rinse the mold with water, so it won't stick.

Visitors to the Co Loa Vestige Site not only immerse in the spiritual cultural space of the land twice recognized as the capital, but also experience making Oản, a signature dish in the Vietnamese culture.

Pupils participate in the experience of making Oản
