According to the Ngọc Phả Cổ Lục preserved at the An Dương Vương Temple (Cổ Loa Relic Site, Cổ Loa Commune, Đông Anh District, Hanoi City), “the 7th day of the 3rd lunar month is the day the king passed away” — the anniversary of King An Dương Vương, the successor of the Hùng Kings, who founded the Âu Lạc Kingdom, relocated the capital from Phong Châu (Bạch Hạc, Việt Trì, Phú Thọ) to Cổ Loa, built the citadel, defended the nation, safeguarded sovereignty, developed agriculture, and expanded the country during the nation-building and nation-preserving era of the 3rd century BCE. King An Dương Vương was later canonized as a deity by the Lê and Nguyễn dynasties, revered as a “great hero of the realm” for his contributions to the nation, with the people of Cổ Loa granted the right to worship him at Cổ Loa Temple for generations.
To honor the ancestors and educate on the traditional virtue of remembering one’s roots, on the morning of April 4, 2025 (the 7th day of the 3rd lunar month, Year of the Ất Tỵ), the Thăng Long – Hà Nội Heritage Conservation Center and the Management Board of the Cổ Loa Relic Site organized an incense offering ceremony to commemorate King An Dương Vương at the Chính Pháp Hall (Đền Thượng). Attendees included representatives from central and municipal agencies: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ngô Lê Văn; the Vietnam National UNESCO Committee; the Department of National Defense, Security, and Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly; the Thăng Long – Hà Nội Heritage Conservation Center; the Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Fatherland Front of Đông Anh District; the Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Fatherland Front of Cổ Loa Commune; the Party and local authorities of Chùa Hamlet, Cổ Loa Commune; the Management Board of the Cổ Loa Relic Site; the Cổ Loa Business Club; Vietcombank Đông Anh Branch; along with journalists, media representatives, social organizations, local residents of Cổ Loa Commune, Đông Anh District, and visitors from across the country, who all solemnly offered incense in remembrance of King An Dương Vương at Đền Thượng.
